Greetings/Introduction
Welcome to Roho96.com. This site is an effort to keep track of graduates of S.H. Rider High School, Wichita Falls, Texas, class of 1996. Any information related to reunions will be posted as soon as received. The Roundup, found at right, is a current list of graduates contacted by the site, as well as various statistics of their whereabouts. Below is a weblog of thusforth updates and general news about the site :-)
Feel free to sign the Roho96.com Guestbook!
Update: October 17, 2006
I hope everyone had a very safe trip home. Looks like the contents of camera memories are starting to flow in, Claire has graciously set up a Flickr Account for people to join if they wish in order to upload photos, or just browse if they please. This will replace the standard gallery here on the site, and the full versions of the pictures on the site (which are cropped versions to conserve space) will be placed thereon. I've signed up for a premium Flickr account, so if you don't want to sign up at all, just send all your photos to me as usual and I'll use my primo bandwidth allowance to send them all (I can send up to 2GB per month, standard limit for freebie users is 20MB). If none of that made sense, just send me your pictures the regular way and they'll appear on the new gallery (and please try to include some rudimentary labels for who is who in which picture).
If you haven't already, take a trip over to Pictage.com and make a new account there so you can browse all of the professional reunion photos that were taken. Once signed in, search for "class of 1996" and select the option listed with the location as "sikes lake center" and then you're in. There are quite a few of the kiddos at the park (and really exceptional playful captures) as well as loads from the banquet event with the wide angle group shot also. Definitely worth checking out ;-D
Haven't had any new contacts since the reunion, but there are still quite a few alumni whom we haven't even reached yet. Please pass along any rumors or sightings of possible locations if you don't get a chance to speak with them directly. Please send in your photos!
Update: October 8, 2006
As best I can measure, the reunion was very successful! The football game, although mostly one-sided with a 60-something to 6 final score (scoring 55 in the first half) allowed us to converse a lot more than having to pay attention to the game as much. The Iron Horse Pub soiree went well. I got a chance to actually meet a lot of Rider alumni I had never even met at Rider. Some looked identical to what I had remembered them, some had a few changes here and there, while others looked drastically different. Quite a few more showed up than were at the game, and it was great to see people I had truly not seen for ten years, as if we had simply disappeared from each others' lives after graduation.
The picnic the next day went well, lots of good conversation and a place for the kids to climb/explore. I was surprised at the number of high-end and ambitious jobs that were held -- more than a few doctors and nurses in training, managers, owners of self-run businesses -- but still quite a number like me pretty much merely "paying the bills" looking for that right job or idea that we could really run with and take off.
After the picnic, I went over to help with the banquet setup. I left about 4:30p to get a nap in before the main event (as I work nights, my sleep schedule was very flip-flopped by the weekend having to stay up much of the day) so I groggily set the alarm without really paying attention -- for 6:20 a.m. -- and hit the sack for a quick snooze. Woke up with a start and stared at the clock, mouth agape, in disbelief... 9pm!! Made a mad dash to get dressed, drove behind people going 2 mph with an apparent phobia of using blinkers, and snuck inside just as the music had begun to start up. Even still, the evening was salvaged to witness the remarkable destruction of the clique-ness of we all experienced in high school -- now there were lots of greeting and chatting between groups that tended to be seperate or cluster in groups that, for whatever reason, I just never was able to meet during school, and there seemed to be lots of animosity and no walls put up that I really noticed. Even having missed 2 hours of munch'n'mingle, I think the entire endeavor and turnout was rather excellent.
While the 2016 Reunion is not even quite yet a twinkle in the eye, there has been discussion of a 5-year get-together to prevent them from becoming so distant (which would be about 2011 -- I don't know about you, but just saying 2000-anything still bears a smidgen of absurdity even though it is 2006 already). I also speculated on periodic 6-month unofficial family bowling or restaurant meets for those of us still in town, but that may be pushing it ;-D
The site will largely continue to operate -- there are still quite a number that has not yet been contacted. We had a truly excellent turnout with shy of 100 alumni in attendance, yet by the yearbook there are 311 students. I heard a lot of talk about what elementary and jr.high campuses students went to, and am considering arranging a list detailing who went where. I also hope to get copies of the questionnaire from Claire (rhymes!) and perhaps post some or all of the entries into a big list to check out. I've currently got all of the yearbook pictures scanned and uploaded but they're not arranged in an efficiently viewable type way quite yet. I'll be working on these projects and others cited in the months past, so feel free to check back throughout the coming months for more contacts, more features, and more pictures.
Speaking of pictures -- please send in as many pictures as you possibly can of the reunion events that you took on your digital and analog cameras. I would like to post as many as I get (as well as arrange them in a prettier/browser-friendlier format than just one huge list). There is still a handful of other pictures and newspaper scans I've yet to post that were sent in prior to the big events to get arranged.
Big thanks to everyone who attended, but also to those who couldn't attend for whatever reason, without much of your help we could not have contacted as many as had been able to be invited. Even still as you hear talk of so-and-so living wherever that aren't on the contact list yet, send us some details that we/I can explore more deeply using some Internet prowess. That said, I hope you had safe trips home, and that you keep the rest of us in mind. Hopefully some connections were re-established at the very least, to add a friendly person to call or meet up with in the years to come!
Update: September 27, 2006
Hooo kay, where to begin. I guess first, if you didn't know already, the itinerary has changed slightly. The updated schedule can be found on the signup page, but pretty much what you need to know is that there will be an informal gathering after the football game on Friday at The Iron Horse Pub @ 615 8th Street. If you mention "Rider Reunion" you'll get a special $4 cover charge.
Next up, I have an "as of this second that I am writing this" list of people signed up for the reunion, which can be found here. There are 77 entries, and do not include the spouses/guests in the count. They're listed by original surnames, so no fussies about correctness plz ;-P
Lastly, I will be out of town from this Thurs morn thru this Mon Afternoon, so I will not be able to update it per se, but I will be able to check my mail while away (attending a wedding for my cousin in Idaho). I hope I didn't forget anything! (if push comes to shove, I can probably figure out some way to update from afar, can't be quite that hard ;-P). Have a good weekend!
Update: September 17, 2006
I've recently gotten all 311 yearbook photos scanned in, and now am in the process of figuring out some way to display them without sapping my web transfer quota. I've considered galleries divided by initial, individual details pages so you could hunt them one at a time, and even a guessing game type deal where the name at the bottom would be obscured until you moved the mouse cursor over it. Speaking of galleries, I have received a fair number of pictures for the current-photo gallery but just haven't stuck them up there yet. Some of them are quite large and need re-sizing, others have various and sundry other issues, so I've been a bit slack on getting those up.
There's been a slight modification to the hourly schedule on the reunion days, to make it so that more people can see each other (for instance, if the time periods were more broadly spaced, someone staying for an hour and leaving would miss someone who arrived later and stayed for the rest) and a minor reshuffle or two of the itinerary things, but nothing particularly major.
The reunion crew may also be sending out a questionnaire to fill out -- this is unrelated to the Roho96 questionnaire (as many of the questions are different) and my set of questions were pretty much just for trivial later-implemented web purposes rather than reunion activities. Please treat the new questionnaire they are sending with greater priority, and even if you've filled out mine, please answer their's also :-D
There might not be much updating in the next week or so, as I'll be bestmanning (?) at a wedding for my roommate, then traveling to Idaho for my cousin's wedding the weekend after that. I'll try to get in any more contact list modifications done between then, though!
Update: September 7, 2006
Not a lot to update except for some news I've been wondering about but never got around to (imagine that) pursuing -- it turns out that the company that owns the copyright to the yearbook photos (that is, reprints/scans/etc require permission from them, not the individuals) has permitted the reunion committee and website (!) to use them without royalty requirements. This means I'll someday be able to put up a before-and-after comparison page of old (yes, I said old) picture to new picture, and perhaps even implement some kind of guess-who type game one day. And I say 'one day' because with the speed of my updates, it's amazing anything has actually gotten done around here.
We're still missing quite a few contacts, so please keep checking around and alerting other classmates about the reunion coming up. If you have any questions about reunion sign up, please send them to the reunion comittee/officers at the address above. And if you haven't already, sign up for the reunion!
Update: September 1, 2006
An official reunion announcement by email has been sent out detailing costs ($30 for 1 classmate, $50 for classmate + guest). Roho96.com is not doing any of the accounting and such for who is and isn't signed up, that's strictly an officers thing -- but I have established at their request a signup page that gives the mail-to information and Paypal info. I took the liberty of removing the donation links from the site so the two wouldn't be confused. Please do not send details about reunion activity sign-up to me! :-)
The roundup has been being updated nearly bi- or tri-daily with the contacted/not-contacted statuses (organized by original surname initial), so roundup welcomes will falter from here and just be unannounced as they gradually appear on the roundup until after has concluded and stuff settles back down to start making better site modifications. There have actually been quite a handful of new entries (and a few taken off the list of contacted because they didn't fit the actual definition when they had appeared on the old roundup when it was one massive column whereas whereabouts were just generally known/sighted but not officially contacted in some capacity.
There is still quite a number uncontacted so please check the list and see if you may know about someone we haven't rediscovered yet, we're really having to rely heavily on word-of-mouth and student-to-student communication about the reunion. Periodically I may update with then-current reunion statistics like how many have signed up, etc.
Update: August 25, 2006
Since it's so near crunch-time, I thought I'd just oversimplify the roundup list for now and just go with a super-simple contacted/not-contacted list for now, before the new design shows up, which may be a bit longer down the line than I anticipated (as I can't find the graphic software I was looking for). In lieu of a more spiffy design, I've opted for what now appears, and there are going to be a few inconsistencies with the previous list until I get it updated more properly, which I promise will be sooner than monthly! hehe
If you've contacted the officers but not me, you may not appear on the list for that reason. Please bear with me as the transition is made to this new list, and notify me of any discrepancies you know of. Apologies if there are any glaringly obvious goofs :-D
Please also welcome to the Roundup: Ryan Holland and Emily Whitwood (Nimz)!
Update: August 15, 2006
The reunion date is approaching, but not many details release yet. To my understanding (as I am not a planner of the reunion but have the honor of listening in on the conversations), the general idea seems to be to attend a Rider game on Friday night of the 6th, followed by an impromptu voyage to a local establishment to hang out. The 7th will start with a guided tour of Rider's campus to see how it has changed since we've been there starting appx Noon, and then a trip to a reserved location for some catered chow and whatnot. Exact details on the cost and times are still up in the air (as I've gotten no official "announce this" schedule so far), but that seems to be the basic idea. I'm sure there will be a few official emails still to come and perhaps even a snail-mailout or two to help find the students we haven't accounted for yet. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email the officers directly at the address above :-)
Just a heads up on the Roundup -- in order to get the details, just drop me a note in email with postal/email address and such, or answer the questionnaire if you like, and I can get it all organized better. Big apologies if I don't reply after I get your information -- if you want a reply/confirmation, you might just add that to the note. I get distracted quite a bit (with 3-4 domains to keep up with and 7+ email addresses).
New contacts include -- Please welcome Stacy Spencer (Dean), Stephanie Ross, Ashley Oatman, Amber Clay (Gee) and Christi Banks(-Likins). I hope I didn't miss anybody ;-/ And a further note about the Roundup page.. I'm making a much much much better visual design instead of the sharp-edged squarish look of visible HTML table borders, replaced with soft rounded corners. After I get the design fixed, the Roundup will be updated to that point. Until then (should be soonish), keep an eye on this update space for new contacts, which will still be listed. Thanks!
Update: July 19, 2006
I don't know about you, but the last two months have just seemed to speed by for me. A lot has been going on with me, but the days have just been churning out like seconds.
Those who had been signed up with us before should have gotten an email recently from the '96 Class officers with a "save the date" image attachment. If you didn't see it, it can be found here. As of the last update (way back in June) I had aligned my list of names with their contact database (which is seperate) so everyone contacted up thru at least then should have gotten something in email. I've gotten a handful of other contacts since then, and they are:
Please welcome: Angela Pugh (Meek), Reagan Grimes, Lori Callaway (Koch), Lark Hooper, Jessica Owens (Underwood), Michelle McRae (Free), Amy Bragg (Hughes), and Christy Banks(-Likins) to the Roundup.
And just as a note in case it was confusing -- Roho96.com is a seperate project than from the main Reunion Committee, as an effort to keep track of the class throughout the years. I can help facilitate various announcements and help with signup and such, but just to be clear (and not imply that I were) I'm not actually a reunion planner. The update speeds have been considerably slow on my part, while other events have been taking place in the meantime in regard to its planning, so please don't get the impression the actual Reunion committee is just as slow as me ;-) heh
Update: June 8, 2006
"Yes Mister Strickland, I am a slacker." I did actually update the roundup, finally. I remembered every day past the day I said I would except at times when I some somewhere exactly impossible to do it from there, like at work or just falling asleep. But ennyhoo.
Please welcome: Rob Davis, Lance Edwards, Aaron McWhorter, Shaunda Lunsford(-Toft), Ian Jackson, Mendy Barrow (Hunsaker), Daniela Di Lorenzo, Jennifer Arp, Kelli Lucus (McCord), Amy White, Lacy Pearson-Cantrell, Ken McKinney and Shelby Bryant (Lawrence) to the roundup!
Update: May 24, 2006
Double Yikes, it's been over a month. Just a note to touch base, not actually an update. I've gotten a lot of new people, new pictures, a new site feature or two (see next paragraph) but not a lot of time to actually sit down and update the site properly. I've got a convenient weekend coming up starting Thursday, so I'm scheduling myself to get it done by at least Friday of this week.
I've got a site idea in the works: a photograph-heavy Wichita Falls "timeline since 1996" to allow those who have moved away from WF since graduating can learn of the major and minor modifications the city has been undergoing, including two massive freeway addons and over a dozen big-city stores like Applebees, Texas Roadhouse, 2x Walmart Supercenters, Lowe's, Home Depot, a huge indoor coliseum that hosts events from hockey games to monster truck rallies to big-ticket musicians (Cher, Styx, and Kenny Chesney, to name a few), a fair number of hotels on the south side of town, Kohls, Big 5 Sports, a stadium-seating Cinemark (old ones were Carmike) movie theatre (tore down the old $1 theatre and built a new one), [In the mall: Old Navy, Victoria's Secret, Books-a-Million, Aeropostale, Pac-sun, Hot Topic, Bath & Body Works, American Eagle, Greek-Italian-Mexican-Asian Foodcourt], to name a few I can think off the top of my head.
Also in the works is a "not contacted" type grid, similar to the Roundup, that identifies which graduates have not yet been contact, in order to jog "oh yeah, didn't he move to.." leads to try to fill them in on reunion plans.
I'm also considering an reunion person-voting type option, that would list an anonymous tally of people who are looking forward to seeing a given person there, such as "5 people are looking forward to seeing John Q. Student at the next reunion," so if you're debating about whether to attend, you'd have some convenient suspense of (a) not knowing who was looking forward to seeing you until you actually showed up, and (b) the knowledge that you'll disappoint that many people by not being able to reserve off vacation in time. Just kidding! I'm scrapping that idea! Maybe ;-P
No particular news about the reunion to update, just some speculation about what has and hasn't been reserved for the event with no concrete plans as best I know so far (or have been instructed to announce). The question of whether a non-96 or a non-grad (such as who went here a few years in our class but moved) has been posed to me a few times, and as best I know they could likely come as a guest of a grad, but that's not the official word. Double check with the "ask the officers" link above, to be safe.
Update: April 14, 2006
Yikes, it's been almost a month! There've been a fair handful of new contacts, and a few new pictures to add: Please welcome Karla Brazil (Max), Ashley Patterson, Amber Bonnell, Crystal Washington-Pope, Randy Schmidt, Summer Segers (Stringer), Stephanie "Emo" Magers, Darren Hicklin, Diana Lankford, Rachel Anderson (Hall), Julie Poirot, Dan Haythorn, and Marisa Smith to the Roundup. As with any others, just drop me a note if you'd like to contact anyone and I'll send the contact details you want me to send to him/her. Easy as that :-D
A feature to keep an eye out for in the coming months is a list of Contacted / Not Contacted grads so better focus can be put on searching out those who may not know about the reunion this October. Thanks for dropping by!
Update: March 24, 2006
Just a quick note to say that the actual reunion date has been decided as October 6-7 (Fri/Sat) of this year, so start reserving off vacation days. No details yet on costs and such, but feel free to continue sending in contact information (which is not a reunion sign-up list, yet) to mjamesmoore1@gmail.com for addition to the Raider Roundup listed here :-)
Update: March 21, 2006
Yikes, it has been a while since I updated last. There have been quite a few more entries to the roundup to mention -- please welcome Judith McDuffie (Pilkington), Robin Elam (Musumeci) from way over in the UK, Jessica Escobedo-Garza, Brad Wetherbee, Jonathan King, Kofi Barkoh, Melissa Miller, Krystal Foretich (Elmore), and Amanda Cerny. Updated some pictures in the gallery, added and removed a few upon request. For now they're still just posted up there as they come in, not in any particular order.
Claire Bishop has advised me of a new option: an Ask The Officers feature so you can ask them directly about various details without me having to go all middleman on ya (and plus, me actually getting around to doing something is quite the miracle anyway). Just send your question to RiderReunion1996@yahoo.com and they'll periodically check it and get you an answer to your pressing questions. As always, as soon as 100% concrete information on reunion dates comes my way, I will post it right up there ^^ :-D
Update: February 10, 2006
A fair number of new list entries this time around to share: David Beck, Lindsey Norman (Sherrer), Luke Davis, Joe Camacho, Brent Hardee, Laura Hyde (Ismert), Eldridge "EJ" Raymond Jr. and Stacy Hall-Lavery. Laura moved away during junior year and didn't graduate with us, but she's no less welcome :-) I've been doing a bit of mall-walking in the mornings and keep seeing Jennifer Norie and Michelle McRae there working, and keep forgetting to tell them about the site. Hopefully will get that done soon!
I still have not received word on the reunion status or dates of any kind. As soon as I know anything it will be posted on this front page :-) Still feel free to send in times that might be best for you and I'll forward it on to the officers ASAP. Haven't gotten but a few suggestions so far. Please keep in mind I'm not the reunion planner, the site is pretty much to keep track of everyone on a free/nonsubscription site :-) I'll forward any questions about the reunion to officers as are received, tho ;-D.
Also, the gallery has been finally updated, now with actual pictures ;-D
Last Minute Edit: Added Stacy Hall to Roundup. Modified icons for deceased classmates (Jewett Ritchie & Corey Staley) to a nicer and neutral-ish gray square which looks a little more repsectful methinks instead of red X's. Yikes.
Update: January 27, 2006
Not just a whole lot to update about except for new contacts. Sorry if I'm a little slow getting to post these if you sent them in a week or so past. I try to get everything done at once when I get the chance :-D Please welcome Tara Lucas (Skipper), Courtney Litteken (McArthur), Jonathan King (stats coming soon), Preston Smith, and Melissa Brosam to the roundup! Leigha Carter (Loranger) notes that her new site, Mommydom.com, is up. Congrats on the new domain!
Update: January 14, 2006
The officers have speculated on an August/September (no solid plans yet) to time it with a Rider football game and some other activity on the Saturday following, but the football schedule doesn't come out until March. This is just a running idea as far as I know. A poll may be added soon about preferences to a time-of-year to hold it. If you have any dire preferences (such as a time you are only able to get off work) feel free to email me those, and I'll pass it on ASAP. Also, greetings to Dana Price(-Iglehart), Andrew Elms, Rhonda Myers (moved before graduating with us), and Staci Miller (Swafford), the newest listed in the roundup :-D
Update: December 26, 2005
Hope you had a pleasurable holidays season! Not much to update, but that the answers section of the questionnaire area is coming right along, and due any day now. Of more notable interest, however, is that Rider '96 grad Kevin Latham was in an article of the local paper, the Times Record News. Here is a link to the article itself. To save time, feel free to use "spam404@gmail.com" as the email address and "spam404" as the password to see the article without having to register for access. Kevin is a captain in the military and has returned from Iraq. Welcome back to the states, Kevin!
Update: December 16, 2005
Glad to see a little bit of a pickup in contacts lately -- please welcome Ashley Alexander (Harrington) and Tyler LeBleu to the roundup! I'm currently organizing the questionnaires, so expect to see a development of that sort soon :-D
Update: November 30, 2005
A bit after November 10 became the slowest section of contact frequency practically since I started, so not really much to update. Notably, however, please welcome Randy Case, DeAndra Walker (West), and Ryan Fincher to the list of those contacted!
Update: November 10, 2005
The problem was resolved -- it was discovered Brian Hamilton was from Old High and had posted a reunion simply for 1996 in Wichita Falls, and it somehow got crossposted to Rider. I sent him a Classmates mail and he recognized the goof and withdrew the announcement. To clarify, a date (to my knowledge) has not yet been set for the Rider 1996 reunion. As soon as plans, arrangements and dates are set, I'll post them here ASAP. Welcome to Thomas Kopp, Michael Poirot, and Mark Smith to the Roundup :-)
Also added a easy-to-see Reunion status section at the top, and revised the welcome paragraph to reflect changes made recently. For now, the bio pages have been nixed, but an all-in-one Questionnaire Results page will likely pop up soon that includes updated photos submitted. Please spread the word about Roho96.com -- most of the response so far as been word-of-mouth. Your help is most appreciated.
Update: November 6, 2005
Have been updating the list periodically, making small changes to correct entries and such, not really much change in a broad sense.
However, I just got an e-mail from Classmates.com reporting that Brian Hamilton has set a date for the reunion and gave an email address with details. I checked all the yearbooks, and there's no Brian Hamilton listed in any of the indexes.. I'm not sure whether this is the legitimate reunion, because according to WFISD the officers are responsible for reunion plans, and Roho96.com is fairly well kept-up with the officers and this is the first I've heard about it. *shrug*
Update: October 21, 2005
Changed the roundup section to include only those contacted so far, and have for the moment eliminated the individual bio pages until I can get better disciplined to setting down to work on it rather than just having a huge, stagnant, un-updated facet.
Update: October 17, 2005
Sorry for the slowness in updates. Going to redo the rundown sometime soon and replace it with a listing of only those contacted so far (but a list of those in the class will still be available).
Andrea Perez did email back, reporting that she had evacuated a day or two prior to the storm, so her son and she are safe'n'sound.
The domain was down for about 2 weeks toward the end of September, because the old domain host switched management without letting its subscribers know and didn't keep up with it. There's a new host with better uptime, and cheaper, but with less behind-the-scenes admin features. Future projects for the site include adding a sign-up and pay-online aspect for the reunion registration. I may periodically highlight new contacts with their questionnaire details posted.
I appreciate you stopping by, so please check back periodically for more information!
Update: September 3, 2005
Consolations to everyone with relatives in the NOLA area hit by the hurricane. Class of 96'er Andrea Perez lives in Belle Chasse, LA, which is practically on the coast. Tried sending an email the day prior to the hurricane but have not head back yet. Her blog's most recent post was on Aug.22.. Prayers and thoughts abound.
I'm gradually getting the Roundup updated, so it may be inaccurate until I'm caught up (and I'll post here when it's up to par). New contacts: Misti Michael(-Caudle) and Rachel Moore (Williams).
Update: August 28, 2005
Slight site redesign to make it a bit easier to update. The huge list is still here, but called the Raider Roundup, found in the list at the right. It's been nearly a month since I last updated, but I haven't gotten many more new contacts. Did manage to get ahold of Corey Young, class president, so all of the officers have now been contacted! The slowness in updates is half due to personal slacking and half to so few newsworthy events to post.
There have been a few offers for help with the site -- the most help I really need is just getting snail or email addresses of graduates. I'm currently developing a questionnaire to be sent to everyone contacted, the answers of which will be posted on the bio pages for each, and I'm taking up a list of suggestions for that questionnaire. What has been suggested so far can be found at the link on the right. My dbase subscriptions have expired to Reunion.com & Classmates.com, but I've mailed a Roho96.com invitation to each person listed for 1996 Rider that was there around June 2005. I also checked the 1996 yearbook and found the names of the parents of some students in a parent-sponsored tribute section, and sent a letter to each one I could find a snail address for in the local phonebook asking if they'd contact their respective progeny about dropping me a note.
An upcoming item (has not yet been started) is to contact the publisher of the 1996 yearbook about getting permission to republish the yearbook photos, since they are bound by copyright for some silly reason ;-D Most any professional portrait is copyright of the photographer, not the person in the picture or who ordered them. Since the site is completely out-of-pocket, I am hoping the publisher/photographer will allow Roho96.com to republish those photos for an "old" gallery at no royalty charge. Anyone interested in taking up the endeavor of contacting them please let me know.
The bio pages are coming along very slowly, but mostly because I just don't have many details to add until I get the questionnaire finished, mailed out, and receive answers. If anything, please just drop me a note with any suggestions you have. Thanks for taking a few moments to stop by, and check back for more news :-)
